Water dispenser keeps freezing up !

The water dispenser continues to freeze up. I have thawed the line over 5 times with a hair dryer. So far I have found nothing in the GE repair articles that address this. I understand there may be a part to keep the water from freezing back up, What was the oringinal part that kept this from happening.

So im clear, you are referring to the in door water dispenser, and not the fill tube that fills the ice maker.

If the line within the door freezes up, you wont find anything in the repair articles that addresses this because there is no repair for it. The insulation around the dispenser area is fiberglass, unlike the rest of the door which is foam, and in the dispenser area there are small pockets of air, usually around the water line. over time, these air pockets fill with ice, and the only fix is what you are currently doing, blow drying the door when it freezes up.

At least, there is no fix that I know of. Sorry.

I have left the door light on and that has kept the line thawed.Apparently the extended piece from the door get frozen from the ice dispenser over top of it. I wish that GE or Hotpoint would get there head out of there but and fix this problem. I will never by another GE product unless I research it.

Well, as hard as it may be to believe, GE is still one of the better products out there as far as refrigerators. But truthfully, there is not a brand out there that doesnt have problems. Some are more major and more frequent than others, but it doesnt matter what brand you buy today, because you can expect to be calling me for a refrigerator repair on any brand within 3-4 years nowadays.

thats just the cold hard truth

I have had a similar problem until last week. The repair person suggested a water dispenser heater. He asked if it was offered the first time the freezer door was replaced. No it was not. I called GE for service since the door was replaced 3 years ago by GE and it looked like it was going to be replaced again until the repair persons suggestion.
Labor and material was $125.00.

I have an issue with the tray in the freezer were my ice maker fill tube comes in freezing up. Ice forms in the dispersing tray and eventually the water spills over and forms ice down the back of my freezer. The water dispenser seems to work during this whole process so I dont think the supply line is freezing.
