Water line dispenser line keeps freezing in door

I have a GE side/side fridge (model GSS25WSTFSS). The unit will make/dispense ice fine. However, the water line keeps freezing somewhere inside of the door, causing it not to dispense water.

  1. I verified this by disconnecting the water line at the bottom of the freezer door & when I then push to dispense water, water comes out of the line, but when re-connected it will not dispense from the door.

  2. Every time I take everything out of fridge/freezer for several hrs & unplug unit, water will dispense again. But within 4-8 days, it will freeze up again in door.

  3. I have not filled any freezer shelf more then 50% to ensure airflow, and it still freezes water line.

  4. My brother has the same model and said when he closes the fridge door & tries to open again immediately, it is much harder to open, like there is a suction holding the door closed. I do not experience this on mine.

  5. Sometimes there is a thin layer of frost on everything in the freezer when I open the door.

  6. Temps are set at 0/37, but vegies in the vegie drawer will sometimes freeze.

Any idea how to keep the water line in the freezer door from freezing??

Thanks,
Ron

Bump…I also checked the temp w/a thermostat & Freezer is at 0-2 degrees, fridge is at 36-37.

Any ideas?

My GE has a design defect , it is missing insulation in a section of the door so it freezes. i just leave the freezer door open a few inches for 20-30 until it thaws .Then i run a few glasses of water out of the line . There is a heater that they sell with soso results .
