I have a whirlpool Gold side by side, and the water is not filling up in the icemaker… where should I start to detect what the problem is?
Thanks, David

David,
In most cases you would want to check or replace the fill valve on the back of the refrigerator.
Unfortunately, you did not supply a proper model number and we can’t be more informative, at this point.
But that is the most common failure on most refrigerator ice maker malfunctions.

David,
Thanks for the model number,
Have you recently replaced the filter, and does the water dispenser work properly ?
Before we replace the inlet valve, try this:
Open the freezer door and make sure the switch on the panel (right side wall) is in the ON position, and observe the LED light. Is the light blinking, on solid or no light.
If the light is not lit or flashing, you have a bad sensor or the icemaker is stuck in a harvest mode
Then press the flapper on the left side of the opening and observe the light,
if the light continues to blink, you have a faulty sensor system. If the light stays on solid, your optic sensor is OK.
If the test to the sensor system checks OK, replace the fill valve, first

Thanks and Good Luck,
Thanks Joe,
Do you know how I access the fill valve you suggested on this model of refrigerator?
Thanks again,
David

David,
You’ll need to move the refrigerator out of the cabinet or opening, far enough to get behind the unit.
You’ll need to turn the water supply off and unplug the power cord.
It’ll be easier to remove the Black lower panel on the back of refrigerator, then start the replacement procedure.
Good Luck,
I have a Whirlpool Gold, model GS5SHAXNL02. I had the problem described here: the water stopped flowing into the ice maker. I first tried turning off the refrigerator, thinking that the line that fills the ice maker might be frozen. That did not fix the problem. I ended up replacing the ice maker and I now have ice again.

Evaluator,
Thanks for the update and information. A faulty fill valve is a more common issue, than a failled ice maker fill contact failure. Normally we attach or mention the test process at the ice maker control head and voltages required to make the components operate.
We’re glad you were able to repair your refrigerator, and Thanks again for the update.
