I own a GE Washer Model #WHRE5260E 1WW and it has been having a problem with shutting off the water when it is filling. You can put it on Small load and it will literally keep filling with water until it spills into the overflow at the top of the tub and drains out into the bottom of washer (…and onto the laundry room floor from there!) Clearly the issue is that whatever controls the amount of water going into the tub. For a while i was blowing into the pressure switch hose at the top before i’d do a wash and this was working, but the last couple of times even this hasn’t worked. Logic would seem to dictate that it is the Water Level Pressure Switch. However, i also notice that the little plastic box on the side of the plastic tub where the pressure switch goes into appears to be fouled up some with some blackish looking material. A repair man told me that this could be what is causing the problem and suggested that i take a small dropper and put some toilet bowl cleaner in there and take a small wire to insert in there and break up dirt. I don’t even know what the name of this small box on side of tub is but my concern is how the toilet bowl cleaner and the grime that would come off…how it is going to get filtered out as i’m afraid i’ll have toilet bowl cleaner going into my laundry for weeks and possibly months. There is always a little bit of water in this box and i’m not sure whether that water is refreshed with every cycle or if that water is the same water that has been in there since i purchased the washer and did my first load. Is cleaning with toilet bowl cleaner and small wire a legit possible fix?
I have also seen some indication that I could have a problem with my Dual Water Inlet Valve which is causing this problem. What is recommended course of action?
Here’s an easy test to see if it is the water level switch or the valve assembly. Start the fill process with the console lose and when it start to fill blow into the water level hose at the tub in with the other end connected to the water pressure switch. If that causes the water to stop filling then the problem is with the hose and the reservoir along the tub.
