Wax motors

Our Maytag DWU8260AAX has been a workhorse for a lot of years. I’m trying to stretch it out a few more months, since we’ll be leaving it behind when we move and the new house already has an 18" unit.

I am an electronic technician, so please assume I have basic competency with electricity and test gear.

The soap door has stopped opening automatically. I’ve taken out the wax motors and attempted to test them. Am I right in thinking that if I hook up a cheater cord to the connector and plug it into the wall, that the end of the unit should get warm and the plunger should extend at least an extra 1/4" or so? If so, they’re both dead.

One measures ~60k ohms, the other >350k ohms…

Here’s the part:

We never use a rinse aid, so should I be able to get away with just replacing the one for the soap door?

Thank you,

Mike D.

Yes you could replace just one if you want.

Thanks, Denman. I’ve put it back together and will test with tonight’s load of dishes.

Thanks for the link to the service manual. I tried searching at that site to get to the same link via my model number and can’t seem to get there. Is there a trick?
