Well, the velocity on the spin cycle just isn’t cutting it. Clothes are coming out too wet. This machine is a Hotpoint and is probably 20+ years old. I would like to try a few things to fix it myself. Where should I start? I have the tools and some mechanical knowledge, but have never worked on a washing machine. Couldn’t find a model number…I’ll give it a closer look.

Check the BELT first, if its tight, I would look at the clutch next. If its the clutch thats bad,you might want to re-think repairing it!!! Its a B–ch to do and NOT CHEAP!!!
Thanks for the reply Drags. Well, I disconnected everything and flipped the washer on its side. Quick inspection revealed a belt in very bad condition.
I can’t believe the washer was even operable! The belt had at least 3’’ of travel. The motor was already adjusted all the way out. I just ordered a new belt on the internet. Should be here within a couple business days. I’m pretty certain this will fix the problem, but I’ll post again to confirm.
The new belt that I ordered arrived via FedEx today. Took me 10 minutes to get it on and everything put back together. Washer runs like a brand new one!!
