Where is the defrost timer located on my refrigerator

 I am trying to figure out where the defrost timer is located on my refrigerator. I have looked at the diagram on the site but before I tear into my freezer thought I would just get confirmation on where it was exactly. Does anyone know? I have issues with my coils not defrosting and it is keeping the cold air from going to my refrigerator. I would also like to check my defrost thermostat as well but don’t know where any of those things are located. I have defrosted my coils once and found a small tear in the side of the inside freezer wall, anyone have a way to repair it? Not sure what caused it since there is nothing around it that could have done it, the tear is at least one inch from the heater coils.

13 on page 2 is the defrost CONTROL BOARD, They fail ALL the TIME!!!:frowning:

I downloaded the pictures but I must be brain dead. Is the picture showing me that I have to remove the fan wheel assembly to get to the timer? or is the timer up above the fan wheel? I’m not stupid I just don’t want to break something if I can avoid it. Thanks

Its in the frig section, not the freezer. Its way to the rear on the Right side at the top, above the cover for the controls, Order the control and have it in your hand before starting, This way, you only have to take it apart once!!!

This information helps tremendously. Not sure I am up to the wiring though but at least I can check to see if it really is the timer. Did either of you have any suggestions on how to repair the inside of the freezer compartment that has a tear in it? Thanks again for all of your help!

I have tried to remove the oven bottom plate to get at the igniter but I can’t get the bottom out. I removed the two screws at the back and lifted up the back at different angles but it won’t come out.How does the bottom come out?

You have to pull it toward the back panel to release the front of the oven floor.

gene I thank you for your reply to remove the oven bottom on my kenmore oven but I have tried numerous times. The bottom can,t be pulled forward without lifting the back since there is no room at the back and the bottom is held very snug in the front oven brace. I have tried all possible angles to pull out the bottom even lifting the back about 60 degrees with no results. Can I use some tool to lift the bottom while the back is raised?

Bill,

When I said "pull the oven floor toward the back panel", I meant to do it after you lifted up the back of the oven floor.

I would try to use a flat screwdriver to pry the front of the oven floor after it’s lifted up.

Gene I tried using a large screw driver and even a crow bar to release the front of the oven bottom but it remains fixed in the oven brace. It has only a llittle play and there is hardly any room in the back to pull it unless it is tiltedat least 45 degrees but the more it is tilted the more it seems to bind at the front. could the bottom be removed from below by removing the warming drawer and panels above the drawer? Any other suggestions? I really appreciate your and any other technician,s help, bill h.

There is no way to do it from the bottom. You have to figure out how to remove it from inside the oven. It is not possible for me to give you any more remote instructions.
