Whirlpool dishwasher not cleaning top dishes

I have a GU1200 Whilrpool dishwasher that is not cleaning the top dishes - it seems to be doing pretty well on the bottom rack stuff, but not on the top. I have disassembled down to the chopper which was about 60-70% clogged and has 2 out of the 4 plastic drive teeth broken off. Do I need to go deeper into the disassembly? I don’t know the next step - I have the schematic, it says I can remove the wash motor and see the separator screen, but I don’t know if I even need to do this - help! Thanks!

35Cents,

Yes, I would go deeper,if I were you.

Based on your post, I’m pretty sure you’ll find the separator plate screen clogged as well.

You’ll need to replace the impeller assembly as well(broken drive teeth).

When you’re finished with that and you test the machine,

Let the dishwasher run approximately 3 minutes, unlatch the door, and wait a few seconds(20 - 30)open the door, and check the water level in the bottom of the tub, the water level should be touching the bottom of the heater element, if the unit is filling proper.

Low water level, will also affect the washability of a dishwasher, and spray arm operation.

Good Luck,

How hard is it to get to the separator screen? Do I have to pull the dishwasher out to do it?
