Whirlpool Dishwasher not draining

The Dishwasher does not drain. If Cancel/Drain is pressed, the motor runs but it still does not drain.

I appreciate your help, Gene. The Check Valve was clogged. I cleared it, and the draining is working now.

If you model has a water filter check there first. Especially if you haven’t change it in a while

I just changed the water filter. I am getting water to the conecter at the bottom of the door. I think it may have frozen from the bottom of the door up to the dispenser. I just don’t know how to defrost it without emptying my freezer and turning it off.

Check the freezer temperature. If it’s bellow 0°F, adjust the freezer control for a higher temperature.

if you have a minute to give me some tips, it would be very helpful to me.

my friend just called me and said her dishwasher sprayed the water out through the drain thing on top of the sink. I’m guessing her main drain line is clogged, i’m heading that way tomorrow, i was just trying to be prepared before i arrive because i have never worked one dishwashers before. she has Whirlpool model DU 8400 XB1. If you can give me any tips it would be great.

Thanks ahead!

Check the hose from the air gap to the garbage disposal for a clog. If the garbage disposal has been replaced recently then most likely it was installed improperly. The new garbage disposal comes with the plastic plug in the dishwasher drain connection which has to be removed at time of installation.

Gene,
I have a whirlpool gu1500xtlt3 dishwasher that also is not draining. The drain hose goes directly to the disposal connection. I can’t tell if it is clogged but I blew into it and could here something from the bottom of the dishwasher / like bubbles.
Can you help me?
Thanks

PlanoRick,

Open the pump as described in one of our previous posts: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/dishwasher-repair/2903-whirlpool-dishwasher.html and check the check valve (5 on the diagram). Check the drain pump.

Here are the break down diagrams and the parts list for the Whirlpool dishwasher http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?diagram_id=960483&&model_id=5140927

Thats what it says in the tech sheets: "Rotate screw-end of protector upward to remove part and expose chopper assembly".

Thanks that worked. The check valve (5 on the diagram) was missing the round part. I guess you find my problem. Do I order the part on line of would Sears have this in stock? Should I replace anything else? I did remove the dishwasher and it’s sitting in my garage
Thanks again - U da man

Check the drain pump. Remove the drain hose and make sure it’s clean. Do not blow air through this hose into the dishwasher.

Gene.
P.S. Have you replaced the garbage disposal recently?

That was it.
Thanks

I had the garbage disposal replaced and now my dishwasher doesn’t drain. I called the installer but he said they were unrelated. It seems too conincidental for that to be the case. Is there something I can check/do?

There is a plug for the dishwasher drain line in the garbage disposal which must be removed during the installation. Disconnect the dishwasher drain hose from the garbage disposal and check if it was removed.

You are welcome. Keep us posted.

I have a whirlpool mod# DV945PWPQO that drains very slowly. I removed the hose and let it drain directly into a bucket and it drained slow. I looked at the check valve and all seems well. The dishwasher also will not drain completely.
