When you push the start button you will hear a hum for about three or four seconds and then a click and the hum stops. The drum does not turn.
The dryer had been working fine with no problems until yesterday. Open to suggestions.
Can you reach in and turn the tumbler freely by hand?
Yes, it will turn counter-clockwise. I tried to start it again after turning the drum manually, same results.
You might start by checking to see if there is any foreign matter in the blower wheel. It isn’t unheard of that a sock gets jammed in there.
OK, Would I get to the blower wheel from inside the drum?
The drawings are not real clear http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=246870&diagram_id=45065 But if you remove the back, you should have access to it. You will have to remove the heater housing (don’t forget to remove the two screws under the lint screen cover), to expose the blower housing.
Ok, Will see what we find. Thanks
Well was able to get the back off and the housing removed to expose the blower. It was not obstructed. I went ahead and plugged the dryer back in, and tried it. Still same results, I believe the motor is trying to run for a few seconds (I saw the blower turn slowly) and then it shut off. Any other options?
All I can think of is a bad motor.
I was afraid of that. So what has to be done to get to the motor? Do I need to remove the front of the dryer?
Yes. You can gain access to it by inserting a putty knife (or a similar tool) into the space between the front panel and the lid. Press on the clips at each corner (about 2" in from each edge), while lifting on the lid. Once you have the lid up, you’ll see how to remove the front panel. Be careful not to stretch the wires that go to the door switch.
