Two weeks after warranty ran out our washer started a clicking noise at the beginning of a wash cycle. Followed the generic recommendations in the owners manual but to no avail. I am currently trying to download the error code but not much luck there also.
Any assistance would be greatly apprciated!.
The F30 code refers to a failure of the dispenser motor. The clicking you were hearing was probably the dispenser motor switch going on and off trying to activate the dispenser motor.
I would recommend you contact Whirlpool and see if they will not give you warranty coverage since it was so close to the expiration. If not, I think this is an easy and relatively inexpensive repair that with the help of the manual you can do yourself.

Good luck and let us know what happens.
Thank you, I will follow your recommendation’s.
This is simply a great site. I repaired my side by side refrigerator a year ago with the help of this site. 5 Star’s for sure.
Glad the comments were useful and that you got your machine up and running. Seems like this is getting to be a problem with these, so your responses will be useful in the future.
Thank you for each of your suggestions from each post because all of it has been so helpful and successfull. My wife is now happy and shocked that I had received my information from the internet. Thank you applieance repair forum!!! F30 Code "Electrical", Motor Dispenser needed a little tug! Woolah done deal.
Our error code f-30 seemed to be resulting from something different, but the information posted here enabled me to solve it.
After taking off the lid, I could see the mechanism turning, and it seemed to be turning fine but with a couple of clicks in two groups as the large motor sprocket slowly turned. (I think that’s the clicking or grinding people are hearing.) I was about to take apart the housing around the motor when the two wires leading to the the top connector of the motor dangled freely. Their was no connector. Whoever assembled it or fixed it before just bypassed the connector and wedged the bare ends of the wires into the slot where a proper connector should go. That was my problem. Those wires probably send a signal to the processor that the motor has turned the sprocket to the proper place. The clicking is the mechanical switches triggering that should be sending that signal, but couldn’t because the circuit was broken. The clicking or grinding that people report is the switched triggering as the motor slowly turns the sprocket around and around when it should only make half a turn before the processor stops it and turns on the water flow. The processor never gets that signal, so it assumes the motor isn’t working, isn’t turning the sprockets, so it throws an F-30.
I fixed mine by pressing the two wires into the top and bottom of the three prongs where the upper connector should have been (and wrapping it in electrical tape.) So far so good.
Thanks for all of the useful information here. Thanks to the previous posters, I knew where to look when my washer stopped with the F30 code. Since my wife had just left town for meetings, I knew I was going to get blamed for it. The lever (part AP3868475) had somehow ridden up over the stop pin that should stop the travel of the lever so it can begin to return. With the lever caught on that pin, it couldn’t move at all, and the motor was making loud noises like plastic gears being forced to skip. Simply releasing the lever from where it was trapped allowed it to operate correctly. Thanks again for all of the help.
My washer was stuck on F30 - it wouldn’t even start a cycle. I took off top, jiggled things. Now it will start, water flows, but at the 17 minute mark (of a 28 minute cycle) I get the F30.
The motor works, and moves the arms.
The water flows.
I removed the whole container for bleach/detergent, thinking that might interfere, runs, but still stops at 17 minute mark.
Hello and think you all with your previous posts this site has helped me with a lot of my appliances, but as for my washer i took the top off ran a few cycles and found when the lever (AP3868475 moved from position I to position II the the lever ([URL="http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/whirlpool-lever-item-number-ap3868475.aspx)) would bend UPWARDS and not towards position II, so im thinking a new lever is needed as this one seems slightly curved upwards as this has probably been happening for a while but finally got stuck and threw the code. I hope this helps anyone else as everyone else has helped me!!
I downloaded the service manual and removed the top cover - three torx-20 screws on the back edge and the soap dispenser has a plastic armature that had hard water gunk interferring with this. Cleaned that off with a toohbrush and some vinegar and the mechanism worked perfectly.
