Whirlpool Fridge / Freezer - Not Cooling

I’ll try and explain this the best I can.

Over the past week I’ve noticed water building up on the shelves of the fridge and leaking out of the drip tray. The cooling was still fine at that time.

I moved the unit to another location, and now it isn’t cooling as it should. The fridge and freezer get cold, but not as cold as they should.
Last night I noticed that the area between the fridge and freezer was HOT.
I cleaned the coils, and then removed the back panel. At that time I noticed that the compressor was very hot and the nut holding the fan blade was very loose. I took out the fan, cleaned it, reinstalled and made sure it would spin freely. I checked all of the relay connections, etc. to make sure no connections were loose.

The fan in the back of the freezer runs non-stop, but nothing is freezing. Also, something is running (motor I assume), but the compressor isn’t kicking on, and the compressor fan isn’t running either.

I do not have a multi-meter to check OHM output, etc. I’m hoping that someone can point me in the right direction (parts, etc.).

Thank you.

Thank you for the fast response and the info. If one of the components were bad… (the compressor for instance)… would the evap fan in the freezer still run? …and would the compressor failure cause the compressor fan not to kick on? Sorry if this sounds ridiculous, but this is my first fridge repair attempt. Thanks again.

Update: Now it seems that the compressor is running. Maybe it was in defrost mode earlier? Or maybe kicking it solved the issue?
In any event, the compressor fan is still not kicking on. I’m thinking it’s the first part I should order.

Yes it does sound like the fan needs replacing.
