I purchased this refrigerator from a friend and it worked fine for several months then all of a sudden the icemaker would not stop making ice. The storage bin was overflowing, water was dripping and forming icicles from the icemaker. I turned the control switch to off and it still continued to make ice. Then I unplugged the frig. and plugged it back in. and turned the control switch back on. We noticed a funny smell in the refrigerator, like wire burning . Thought it was the lamp in the refrigertor section making contact with the plastic cover, but it wasn’t that so we turned the control switch off completely. If we turn it back on the smell comes back. It appears that the laser light is not working, atleast I can not see any light beam when we press the flap down to indicate the door is closed. I had a GE for 28 years and never had a problem and it appears there are numerous posts on the whirlpool icemaker.
