Whirlpool Quiet Partner II Dishwasher won't completely drain

I have a Whirlpool Quiet Partner II dishwasher. I got some glass caught in the grinder. After cleaning it out and re-assembling all of the water would not drain out after the cycle completed. I pulled the float out to trouble shoot it not draining properly. When I pulled it out for the first time there was some resistance, like it was snapped in. Now when I re-install it it does not snap, only sits in there. Now I think it needs to snap to something because at the end of the cycle there is still some water left in the bottom. It all drains out when I push the cancel/drain button. Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
