whirlpool refrigerator freezer

hi,
i hope someone can help me. i have a whirlpool refrigerator with a bottom freezer that keeps accumulating water, which turns into ice, and i have to break it up and remove. i first thought my ice trays were leaking but that is not the case. any ideas as to where this water is coming from. there is no water hooked up to the frig.

thank you in advance,

Hi,

There is a drain hole under the evaporator coils inside the freezer. This hole is clogged and frozen. Remove the rear panel in the freezer and defrost it using a hair dryer. Run some hot water though the drain using a turkey baster.

thanks gene, i do not know what evaporator coils look like but i will googe it…thanks again…if worse comes to worse i will just empty the frig and unplug it.

The evaporator coils are in the freezer behind the rear panel.

Gene.

thanks again

You are welcome. Keep us posted.

I have an identical problem (ice inside on bottom of freezer) with a Whilpool GB2FHDXWB09 bottom freezer. "I assume one cannot see the drain hole from inside the freezer". I was hoping to not have to pull the frig. out because I only have one arm and its not too strong (old)

i emptied out the frig and unplugged it…seems to work fine now…put a towel in the freezer to soak up the water
