Whirlpool Refrigerator not cold

Have a bottom freezer unit with side by side refrigerator doors. The freezer is cold, but the refrigerator is not. It looks like the coils in the back of the freezer are iced over.

This happened a year ago and I just removed the food and unplugged the unit for a day. It’s been fine since…until now. What is causing and what is the fix?

Hi,

Sounds like your refrigerator has not been defrosting.

Could be one of three things if it’s a defrost problem.

  1. Burnt out defrost heater.
  2. Bad defrost thermostat.
  3. Faulty control board.

I replace a lot of control boards in these refrigerator for defrost problems.
You can check the defrost element and defrost thermostat for continuity with a multimeter.

If the defrost heater and defrost thermostat check ok then I would replace the control board.

If you can locate the tech sheet (should be with your refrigerator) it will tell you how to manually put the refrigerator into defrost too.

Hope this help.

Found the tech sheet and manually put the refigerator into forced defrost. Depending on how it goes will buy a multimeter tomorrow to check the defrost element and thermostat. Thanks for the help.
