My girlfriend and I came back from a wedding and everything in our freezer had defrosted and the freezer was not cooling, the fridge was cool however. I unplugged the fridge, cleaned the coils, and then plugged it back in and it kicked back on. Then the other day I opened up the freezer and the food was starting to defrost again. I messed with the temp control for the fridge part and it kicked back on. Then just today I was turning the control knob for the freezer and noticed a scratching noise when I turned it. Also, I noticed that when I turned the fridge control to a warmer setting when the compressor was running (I think it is the compressor, the fridge is making noise and cool air is pumping in) the compressor would turn off. But, when the compressor came back on and I moved the control for the freezer nothing would happen. I’ve done some researching and I’ve heard about replacing the start relay, the capacitor, or even the thermostat control. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas so I don’t go buying parts I don’t need.
