I have a whirlpool that is about 15 months old and just stopped cooling (freezer and fridge). I dug through some old posts - and came across a couple that suggested to check the starter device - which I did immediately. However I didn’t hear any rattling when shaking, so is it right to assume it is fine? I reconnected everything and didn’t hear any "clicking" either and the compressor is running. Everything looks clean under the fridge and the compressor fan seems to be running fine, and there is only cool (not cold) air blowing into both freezer and fridge compartments.
I’m not sure what to check next - can someone please help me out?
Brand: Whirlpool
Model: ED2GVEXVD01
Thanks in advance,
Larry

Since the compressor is running, it should be cooing. From your post it sounds like you are getting some cooling just not enough.
Is the evaporator/freezer fan running?
It should be as it is required to pull air through the evaporator coils and cool it.
Remove the cover from inside the freezer so you can inspect the evaporator coils.
If they are heavily iced/frosted over then you have a defrost problem. It could be the heater, the defrost thermostat or the control board.
If it has little frost (usually where the freon enters the coils) or no frost then you have a sealed system problem and it will be an expensive repair. Besure the compressor has run continuously for a couple hours. If you do this check shortly after a defrost cycle you will end up with the wrong conclusion.
