Whirlpool washer fills near end of spin cycle

Hi All,

At first I noticed that my washer was ending its wash cycle with a small puddle of water in the tub. I thought it was the pump and verified it is not clogged and that it does work.

Now, after monitoring the rinse/spin cycles, I noticed that it drains and spins fine, but that it starts to add water about 30sec before the spin cycle ends, so everything is soaked again.

I also noticed that when I start the wash cycle, it begins to spin before even adding water. So it almost seems like the spin control vs water level control are out of sync with each other.

Is it a control module, a water level sensor or something else?

Thanks!

These washers are set up to add water at the beginning of the spin cycle to get suds out of the clothes. Your is adding at the wrong time, which suggest a timer problem. Since this model has the lowest cost for a timer I have ever seen, try replacing it and see if that helps.

Thanks sidfink43.

I decided to open up the timer as I don’t have much to lose. It looked like the one set of copper contact fingers were charred (but not melted together) as well bent toward each other making a connection in their resting position.

So I sanded off the finger contact points and straightened the fingers and assembled it all back together, all with no apparent change in behavior. I was hoping something would be different!!

I might just order a new one purely out of curiosity at this point.

Thanks again.

Ok good, let us know how things turn out.

It looks like replacing the timer did the trick.

Thanks!

Great, glad that got it fixed and thanks for the updata. Happy Independence Day too.

So I validated the integrity of the hose. It seems to be made out of pretty flexible rubber, so it is unlikely to break/tear easily. Did I mention the washer is about 3 years old?

Anyway I was playing with it my my backyard and it eventually stopped opening the water valves completely. Not sure if leaving it out in the sun made a difference, but now NO water comes in. It still does spin and drain when it is supposed to.

I am guessing it must be the combo switch that houses the water pressure sensor? This seems to be one of the more expensive parts to replace…

Yes, it is usually not an expensive part, but seems to be on this model.
