whirlpool washer only advances if I bang next to lid

I bought a lid switch for this washer from this website but it still doesn’t work. For each change in a cycle, it buzzes, and if I bang on it either on the lid or next to the lid, it usually starts up again. I have to bang it about 4 times during the whole cycle to make it complete the washing cycle.

Check for loose screws on the left side lid hinge. That hinge activates the lid switch and it’s relatively common for the screws to loosen.

I tried it; it did not seem to fix it. I even wedged a screwdriver in the new lid switch to make it think it is locked but it still does not want to advance without giving it a bang. It just buzzes for about 30 seconds, and if I can’t make it in time to bang it, it just sits for about 15 minutes, then buzzes again. :frowning:

Well, you shouldn’t let it sit just buzzing as it can damage the start capacitor and the motor. I think there may be a faulty timer contact or possibly loose connections at the capacitor. Unplug the timer and check for any burned terminals inside the connector or on the timer. Check that the capacitor connections are tight. Capacitor is located on inside of back panel next to the water inlet valve assembly. If you buy the timer from APP, it can be returned if it doesn’t fix the problem.
