I tried a quick search to see if someone had already posted this.
This Whirlpool washer won’t spin, almost ever, unless you open the lid and rock the tub as if it had shut down for an imbalanced load. This happens for any size load.
Just to be clear, when it hits the spin cycle all you get is the sound/hum of a motor with no actual spinning until you rock the tub, then it almost always spins when you close the lid.
Thoughts?
Try checking your lid switch sounds like it is defective and needs to be replaced take a visual and see if it is starting to separate at the point it makes with the lid striker, to check you can use a meter and or remove the case and look at the complete switch basically the contact point to see is it is still intact. If not replace or repair.

Thanks allen9258.
It is definitely not the lid switch. I have replaced it and am familiar with those symptoms. This is more like a load unbalancing switch or something similar. The machine empties just fine but then just sits there until you open the lid, grab the agitator column and rock the tub back and forth. Then close the lid and off she goes.
Sorry it took me so long to get back with you and if you are having to rock the machine to get it to spin then check the suspension springs and be sure to check the one in the rear sometimes the hole that it hook in rust out or the spring rust off and causes this type of problem

Thanks, I will have a look at that!
