Won’t agitate in gentle cycle

Hello,

A year and a half ago, I used your forum to determine that the timer on my washer needed replaced. (Thanks for the help!) I put the new one in and it worked fine until recently.

Once again, I’m having an (intermittent) issue with the agitator. This is an 8 cycle, 2 speed washer. When using normal, heavy or super wash cycles, it agitates fine until it enters the second half which is "soft wash", then 90% of the time the agitation will stop. This of course pertains to the gentle cycle as well. However, it will correctly continue advancing through to the spin and rinse cycles without a problem. Is it possible for the timer to go out again-especially in such a short time span or could this be Transmission related? Any insight you can offer on this will be truly appreciated.

I don’t think this is the transmission. The motor in your machine is a two speed motor and for some reason the slow speed is not kicking in. I would say this is a timer issue if you had not replaced it and actually I still think it is a timer issue because the other possibility is the motor, which fails much less frequently.

The first thing I would do is take off the motor connector and clean the terminals with a good electrical cleaner and the reseat it and make sure the connections are tight. Do the same with the connector at the timer. If that does not fix things you can try replacing the timer or the motor, your pick.
