My 4-year-old Kenmore died a couple days ago. Here’s the symptoms:

1. Igniter would glow and flame ignite properly.
2. After about 3 minutes, flame goes out.
3. Igniter comes back on, but no flame ignites.
4. After allowing the unit to cool, restart and repeat step one.

I have spent several hours reading through over 100 pages of threads on this forum, and noticed a pattern:

1. This is a common problem on gas Kenmore/Whirlpool dryers
2. The most common fix recommended is to replace gas valve coils.

Since I needed the fix right away, I purchased the parts locally (however, the parts store listed these as part # 279834 and they cost $30!).

Problem solved!

So, I really don’t have a question, I just wanted to give feedback at how awesome this forum is. You guys just saved me a fortune. I just hope there’s not an army of dryer repairmen out of work because of this site.

Thanks!
Thanks for the update.
I generally do not work on gas appliances but it does seem that the suggestion to "replace the coils" is a unversal solution, so when I do work on them or give advice, that is what I say.
Thanks again.
