22 yr old Jenn Aire Fridge not cooling

This is a follow up post from a previous post from last year here: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/refrigerator-freezer-repair/319966-get-shock-fridge-when-touch-something-else-2.html
I am sorry but I never did respond to Jerrys final post, but we did nothing about the inside light being out and it has remained that way to date. I have also included the full model number in this thread that I didnt include last year.

We have never had a return of the shock problem with this fridge but in June 2013 it slowly stopped freezing anything. I called an appliance repair person and they came on June 22nd, replaced some parts and the fridge started working again as it had been without a problem. He told me the compressors are no longer made for this model and that if it was the compressor I would have to buy a new fridge. He did not repair the inside light as far as I know. My adult son was here when he came, I wasn’t.

So last week I noticed the freezer was cold but not freezing solid the few things that were in it. Fortunately it was all bread products, so no real loss.
I hesitate to call this repairman back because Im not sure he fixed the right parts or maybe Im just hesitant to throw good money after bad. The repairman I hired repair all brands of appliances so I`m not sure if he used Jenn Air parts or whether they were generic parts.

I have a few questions that I think the experts here will be able to answer. The fridge when it was purchased in 1991 cost $2200 and other than the problem turned up last year and this problem, it has cost me no money at all to keep it going. As you can imagine a comparable fridge would cost me today more than double what it did then and I do not have the money for that quality by any stretch of the imagination. I still love this fridge for it`s ease of use and ease of cleaning. But, I am now on a fixed income which really limits what I can spend on a new fridge.

My questions: 1. I would like your opinion of after market parts for this fridge and the possiblity that the repairman I had fix it put generic parts in it rather than Jenn Air parts that are available from the research I`ve done. Is there a difference in quality of after market parts, would it make a difference if he used generic parts in my fridge?

  1. Do you think it`s worth pursuing further repairs to it at this age given the fact that it has had few repairs and it doesn’t appear to be the compressor that is the problem?

  2. Do you know if there is anywhere I could get a rebuilt compressor in Canada for my Jenn Air fridge? They are available in the US but they apparently cannot transport them into Canada probably because of the freon.

  3. Do you think it is time to bite the bullet and just try to find another fridge that I like and buy it, or whether to get a repair person to come and look at it again, hoping they will replace the parts with genuine Jenn Air parts.

  4. What are the best makes of 19-20 cu ft top freezer, fridges under $1000 CDN? (the CDN dollar is almost at par with the USD)

Thanks for any help you can give me…
