Hello, First off I was blowing my GFI that my frig was plugged into every night. I disconnected ice maker cause it was working as usual. I assumed I needed a new ice maker. then I searched the internet and found your sight and called and explained that inside the back of my freezer (on the bottom of frig) the back wall was frosting up. the gentleman told me to remove the back panel (4 screws) and found about 2 inches of ice. he told me the bad part was there so we had to hang up cause it took me almost 2 hours to melt the ice. When ice was all melted I called back and unfortunately could not talk to the same guy. Anyway the next guy told me I needed a defrost timer which is located in the frig part, not the freezer. with that said I went to a local appliance repair store and was going to purchase the defrost timer part but the owner told me it was the defrost thermostat and not the timer and said he had one that would work with my frig. It is an Electolux part number 5303918202. I bought it and installed it about an hour ago. I’d hate the wrong part to blow out my entire frig for a $30 part. Personally do you think I’ll be ok with the part i installed or should i buy the original replacement part number AP4009073 and put that one in? I don’t know what kind of damage this part can cause to the frig and it would be really disappointing over a $30 part. Please give me a professional opinion on my situation. Thank you in advance for your time and insight/guidence.
John

Hi,
The refrigerator should not be plugged into a GFI to start with.

5303918202 is a factory part number.
AP4009073 is a AppliancePartsPros site part number.

As with most online parts sites they use there own part numbering system.

If you have the old part yet it may have the factory part number on it.
I like to use factory replacement parts myself unless they are no longer available.

Hi, Thanks for all the help. the GFI is on the kitchen wall within 5 feet from the sink and when it blows, the receptacle the frig plugs into goes out. The house was built in 1992 and I guess that was code maybe. who knows, but I’ve never had a problem with it blowing until my issue with this fridge. First I thought it was the ice maker cause it was not working properly. I disconnected it and even looked to purchase a replacement but "thankfully" it was discontinued but I just put it in a bag. then soon after the freezer wasn’t keeping thing frozen and the frig didn’t seem to be as cold as usual. So I looked all over the internet for info in my problem and came across this site and a phone number. When I first called I spoke to a gentlemen that was familiar with my frig particularly and I told him the back of the freezer was frosting up. He guided me to remove 4 screws and the back wall of the freezer. Then there was 2 1/2 to 3 inches of ice. He said I needed for that to melt. Using a heat gun I started melting the ice. It was a long process so we hung up on the phone. He told me before we hung up that the bad part was in the ice. That was after I turn the thermostat and the fan was going on and off as I turned the controller. 2 hours later the ice was gone and I had the fan and all the wires and connectors out of the freezer, including a part called the defrost thermostat. So I called back the same phone number, spoke to 3 women and 1 gentlemen and not one of them directed me to replace anything fom there. All 4 of them told me I needed the "Defrost Timer", which is located inside the refrig part, not the freezer. I went to my local appliance repair shop for thee "defrost Timer" and the guy told me he has replaced HUNDREDS of the defrost thermostat (which was located in the back of the freezer) so I purchased and installed the Electrolux 5303918202. The identical replacement part that came with my refrig from your company is Part Number: AP400907. Now with all that said, My concern was if it is safe or just ok for me to use the part I installed or wether I should purchase the part from you. Your part has the identacal two color wires as the original as to the one I bought which has a light blue and dark blue wire compared to the brown and orange colored wires from the original. Right now my frig is working as if brand new and I’m doing cartwheels because I don’t have to spend $1,500 to $2,000 on a frig 3 weeks before Christmas. Did I mention I have 2 little kids that have crazy lists for Santa. SO… was is the worst case scenario
that this Electrolux could cause? Thanks again for all your time and attention to my refrigerator issues,
John

If it’s working fine and you don’t see any more ice build up over time I would just leave it be.

The worst case would be the ice build up again because it’s not defrosting correctly, just keep a close eye on it for frost build up, I think you will be fine.

Happy Holidays.
