Black Spots on plastic dishes

Lately there are small black greasy spots appearing on our plastic dishes on our Kenmore Elite (Bosch) dishwasher, we have replaced the door gasket and bottom door gasket. I have also noticed the same type of spots on the plastic parts in the sump where you remove the filter to clean.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

That is from the heating element/ If it has not already failed it will soon.

The replacement will propably include a new control board.

They have changed venders on the heating elements and the new ones are a higher wattage. That means the run time of the heater has to be shortened to avoid overheating, so a new control board is shipped with it.

Also be aware that metal tubs and plastic tubs use different heating elements. Make sure you get the correct one.

Check your warranty, mine was still covered when it failed. They will try to get you to pay for a service call, but you can have theem send the parts if you are persistant and threaten to have a recall initiated. It worked for me.

Gerry,
Thanks for the reply, we can’t find the date when we bought it but i know it is more than 2 years so were probably out of luck with warranty, just curious, how would you get greasy black spots from a heating element?

Thanks,
Mark

The coating on the outside of the element is coming off and spraying around the inside of the machine. Rub your finger on the heating element.

You will probably also see places where is is missing.

one or 2 loads with a new element will clean the spots off. You may want to clean the gaskets with a paper towel to get the small gaps clean.
