Bleach and softner dispenser not working?

I have a Maytag Top Loading washer that the Bleach and softner will not operate. I’ve replaced the valve, done the test in the manual. Solenoid humms, water runs, ALL in the drum however??? Appears New valve not opening?? ANY ideas are appreciated. I have cleaned all of the lines and containers.

Rcoalson,

Which valve did you replace,

The fill valve,

[part]AP4008714[/part]

Or the dispenser valve,

[part]AP4008714[/part]

Sounds like you need the dispenser valve and clean the fill hose debris screens and flush the faucets.

I think you’ll be fine after that.

:slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile:

I appreciate your help, Yes that’s the one I replaced. Oops It was the one on the back of the machine toward the top, Whats the other one on the back lower left???

This is Dick responding;

Lower Left is Water Inlet Valve the Pic’s that Joe showed you.

I did not get an answer as to how you tested in Service Mode;

""To test you would first turn on the Water Inlet valve in Service Mode then one at a time turn on the Bleach and Softener valves in Service Mode. Is that the process you used to check for water flow thru the dispenser valve assembly?""…Dick

Another thought;

Is there a possibility the washer lid is distorted/bowed. Check for dispenser port alingment into the water channels leading to the reservoirs as seen in the pic below.

If no this would be my next step.

Turn on those valves in Service Mode and measure 120VAC form the respective relays on the Control Board to the field coil of the dispenser valve assembly ;

With the water source turned off and if you are OK with measuring 120VAC with a DVM. Turn on the dispenser valve in service mode and verify 120VAC at the field coil of each solenoid valve.

K3 for Bleach dispenser valve.
K5 for the Softener dispenser valve.

If the schematic is still in the console take a look and you will see the relays I refference on the Control Board that switch 120VAC to the field coils of the dispenser valve…Dick

Great job Dick,

Thanks,
:cool: :cool: :cool:

Glad to help Joe.

I hope it works out for rcoalson.

I find the machine very easy to work on once you get some hands on.

I have done everything you can do to the machine from Control Board troubleshooting to Outer Tub/Spinner Support bearing replacement.

Take care…Dick

Dick,

Yes, You are well versed in the FAV 68 & 9800, better than some technicians I know.

You take care as well,

:smiley: :smiley: :smiley:

I really appreciate your help, I tested both sides of the dispenser valve and they both had 120v, I checked the lid it’s not distorted or clogged. I did the test per the manual, put it in test mode, delicates then wrinkle control for softner and bulky for bleach and spin for water?? Both humm but no water. I bought a NEW dispenser valve and still no help, ANY help and thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

Joe or Dick, the manual states the dispensers are timed controlled… is there any way to reset and/or check that???

I believe the bleach dispenser valve should open up during the first water fill of the wash cycle selected.

The Fabric dispenser valve should open up during the rinse part of the cycle all under firmware control by the Control Board. As far as I know you can’t change those settings.

In Service Mode I’m just trying to fault isolate the issue. My assumptions are the Water Inlet Valves are working as designed from your initial post.

OK if you can get 120VAC to the valves In Service Mode and you hear them hum that’s a good sign. This is on the newley installed dispenser valve assembly correct?

As I mentioned in my previous post first open up the Cold water valve in Service Mode before opening up the Bleach/Fabric Softener valves in Service Mode.

I just did this. I place a paper towel over the reservoirs to help ID water flow into them then close the washer lid.

 1. Enter Service Mode;

 2. Press Delicates key LED display indicates ot (Board Output Test)something like that and the lid locks will lock.

 3. Press Spin key and the Cold water inlet valve opens and water flows into the wash tub thru the dispenser valve assembly.

 4. Press Bulky Items key and water is diverted to the bleach reservoir as verified by wet paper towel… I hope :confused:

 5. Press Wrinkle Control key and water is diverted to the Fabric Softener reservoir as verified by wet paper towel… I hope :confused:

If after doing this and you have no water flow thru the dispenser valves and you verify 120VAC to the dispenser solenoids I’m at a loss as to what the issue is.

My next step would be to bench test the dispenser valve with a cheater cord and insure the valves are opening up with 120VAC applied. Lil tricky to do that but will explain if you need to go that far.

Just an FYI…If you release the washer top from the base to observe be very careful water will spray everywhere.

Maybe Joe can jump in with his thoughts.

Good Luck I’ll be around if I can help…Dick

You guys are on POINT,

But a couple of things,

In the test mode the valves are not "timed" , so be carefull there.

Raise the top and remove the front panel, put the top back down in the proper position, to observe the dispenser operation. The paper towels will just create a big mess, You’ll be able to observe the dispensers filling with water, and flowing into the cups on the tub cover.

Make sure both the hot and cold water faucets are full open. and leave the cold fill valve open(filling) when you test the bleach and softner dispenser valves.

If we have enough cold water flow to the valve(s) there should be no "buzzing" noises from the valves.

You guys are on it.

Good Luck,
:slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile:

Dick - just in case monitoring this and not the thread I started.

I posted test results
