I just purchased a frigidaire affinity dryer and the first load "burned" the load of clothes. We thought there could be a hook up problem so we tore it out replaced all the exhaust and rehooked it up and it burned my second load I did as well. There was a combo. of towels, t-shirts, sweatshirts, fleece sweatshirts, etc. and it was set on high heat. The dealer replaced the dryer with an identical one and AGAIN I have ruined more clothes. The grid on the back is charred looking and clothes have a burned imprint of that back grid. The fleece is actually burned and sticking to itself. Is it defective or have we done something wrong??
I too purchased the same washer/dryer set (Model # FAQG7017K0) and it is also burning my clothes. Some of the items were a complete loss and I have had to throw away, others have been able to be worn, just around the house and not anywhere special because they have burn marks on them or they have the burnt residue from the metal piece on the back inside of the dryer wall. We went to Aarons to do rent to own and we called and asked them to come out and look at it. I was not there and so the guy told my mom that I am not doing the laundry properly and I am drying too big of loads. I do in fact know how to do the laundry and I am not washing too big of loads. I am lost as what to do now as the dryer is ruining everything I put in there. You cannot under any circumstance dry anything fleece because it will burn and melt for sure.
Contact Frigidaire immediately, and use this Forum as evidence of the problem being there machine. This is a safety issue and they should get someone immediately out to see you.
Do the same with the seller and be very aggressive in pursuing this. Also see about you state’s attorney generaL consumer protection agency and consumer product safety agency. Involve the Feds Consumer Safety folks. The situation is unacceptable, and you are not drying your clothes in the wrong way and this is not your fault.
I had called Frigidaire earlier and the gal that I spoke to acted as if I was crazy and laughed and said that she had not heard of this problem before. I hung up and did the Google search and that was when I found this thread and a few others. I have sent an email to both Frgidaire as well as the store where we bought the washer/dryer and I will also contact the agencies you have mentioned. I will post updates as Ig o through the process inn hopes to help others might be experiencing the same issues.
Thank you for your suggestions.
Great, keep at 'em until you are satisfied. Make sure your outside vent is clear, but even if it is not your machine should not be doing what it is doing.
I purchased my dryer about two weeks ago and noticed at first grid marks on my clothes. As I continued to use the dryer, I noticed black sticky stuff, some of what came off some that didn’t. I finally noticed the grid inside the dryer was burnt. This is a serious fire hazard and could burn the house down if left unattended. I went online and found many consumers complaining about this same issue. I called a company that repairs if it’s still under the warranty and they are scheduled to come out in two days. I hope they will resolve the issue.
I purchased my Frigidaire gas dryer along with the washer in August. I have not had a single load where my clothes weren’t burned. It ruined a pair of my ski pants, a NorthFace ski jacket along with several sweatshirts, tshirts, towels and sheets. I have had 3 people out. They said the problem was that my vents needed to be cleaned out because the hot air was staying in the back of the machine and couldn’t circulate properly. I paid $300 to have the air ducts professionally cleaned and it’s still happening. Now that I know the machine is defective, I am requesting a full refund to use for a new machine that will NOT be Frigidaire. Thanks for your posts!!
Absolutely. Modern dryers have built in safety devices which prevent the heat building up to burn clothese when there is an obstruction in the venting system.
There must be a problem with the machines, and all of you are experiencing this should be fighting it.
Good luck everyone.
I’ve had my Fridgidaire dryer for five months and am now experiencing problems. It melted two loads of laundry, anything fleece or with polyester. And what didn’t melt was ruined because the melted material adhered to the cotton.
I emailed Fridgidaire and requested some compensation for all the clothes that were ruined. They responded that they don’t have a policy for reimbursement but offer to send me $25 as a goodwill gesture.
I’m fighting for more, but doubt it will happen. I work for a service provider and if we break a vase or track mud in on a carpet, we have to repair it. I lost quite a few pajamas, a blanket and tons of undergarments.
The service technician said I did nothing wrong, manufacturer’s defect, so I would think they would be more accomodating in compensating their customers. I’m going to file a complaint with the BBB, but who knows.
I’m having the same problem and have had this problem for the entire 4 months I’ve had this dryer. Same issues…the grill in the back of the dryer is burned with black sticky material that gets all over clothes and ruins them. The problem escalates when you try to dry any type of fleece material - so I hang those to dry now. I’ve called the place where I bought this dryer just today when I saw this thread, as I realized the problem is not just mine alone. I urge everyone on this thread to call their dealer and call Frigidaire…they can no longer say they’ve never heard of this problem.
A side note…I had a Frigidaire dryer 3 years ago that caught on fire and nearly burned my house down. I was an idiot to buy another one.
Okay, I called Frigidaire and requested reimbursement for the clothes their dryer destroyed. They said they don’t have a policy, but offered to send me a check for $20 as a good will gesture. I then filled out a complaint with the BBB and about two weeks later Frigidaire contacted me and offered me $200. I told them that was fine, but it just burned another load and I was pretty much terrified to have this thing in my house. Ruining clothes is one thing, but I was afraid it was going to burn down my house. So, they had a brand new one delivered in a week. It’s an updated model, too. I’d rather not have a Frigidaire, but at this point, I’m just glad to have that other one out of my house. I had it about eight months, bought it brand new and it was just awful. I’ll never buy Frigidaire again. But, my advice to anyone out there is to fill out a complaint with the BBB. I used the address I got from the Frigidaire Customer Service Department that originally only offered me $20. And the BBB contacted me twice to ensure I had been taken care of.
Great story, thanks for informing us and good luck with your new model.
