My parents have an old GE Double Wall Oven Model #J782T13BC that I had thought originally needed a new light bulb. Upon further inspection, the terminals were burned to the light socket holder.
I removed the terminals, cleaned up the socket, and put new high temperature terminals on the wires. After putting in a new light bulb, turning the circuit back on, the fixture worked.
Until it didn’t.
My hand brushed against the rusted copper wire situated under the broiling element (see below) which resulted in a popping sound one of the wires to the light socket burning.

My questions: Why would only one wire to the light socket burn? Is a new socket needed or new wiring.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated!
