I have a self cleaning tappan electric range. Lately, when baking the preheat light goes off before oven temp is reached (I have a temp gage placed inside that shows the temp). So I wait until the inside gage displays the correct temp. During the duration of the baking time I hear/notice the oven pre-heat light come on and when it does, the broiler element kicks on for a minute or so and then off. I’m having to use foil over the top of everything to avoid burning the tops of anything being baked. I’ve done some research and discovered it could be the bake element and it’s been cooking things using the broiler element. If this is the case, is this something I can replace (and how to get the part) or do I need a professional? If not the bake element, what could be causing this to happen?
