I have been noticing chunks of rust at the bottom of the washer basket after a load of laundry. Took agitor out and at the base of the basket it is all rusty wear it comes together with the tube. Followed instructions per previous threads, took apart to look at drive block and it was ok. Should basket be replaced?
I would replace it. Once the porcelain is compromised and rust forms on the basket it eats the metal. Its like rust on a car but works much faster.

I replaced it along with a new drive block and is working fine.
