Clock stuck at 00:00, everything else ok?

Hello, my (ancient) range lost its mind and I hope you can help.

I was baking at 350, when a loud beep sounded from the range. It sounded like the oven timer alert except it was a continuous sound. I hadn’t set the timer, but tried using those controls (a pushbutton to the left of the display), but nothing was effective.

While I was getting the manual from a drawer, the sound stopped (probably was 45-60 seconds but man it seemed longer), then a 1 appeared in the left-most digit of the clock panel, which shortly (as in, before I could even look that up in the manual) changed to 00:00. Thinking there had been a power interruption, I just tried to set the clock as per normal, but nothing happened. I cannot select clock, timer, etc. with the left pushbutton, and I can’t change the 00:00 with the dial to the right of the display.

On a whim, I turned the oven back on, and the indicator light came on, oven worked, and I finished cooking my food. I was kind of surprised that the oven works without the clock being set, but I wasn’t going to look that gift horse in the mouth.

I’ll generally ok with workarounds (hey, there’s a clock on the wall, I guess I can live without the one on the range working) but its a little strange and I’m concerned some fuse blew or a board is toasted and is that a risk of a larger kitchen fire?

There is nothing in the manual about this, and I didn’t find anything else on the internet about this problem. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Kathy
