while cleaning the clothes, the washer deposits water on the floor. Wife scrubs up the water, thereby cleaning the floor. GE is brilliant! As an added feature, the rinse cycle is so loud, I can’t hear her complain that it needs fixed. What a remarkable machine!
I looked up the parts and it seems that there are several seals and bearings that may need to be replaced so that I don’t have to sleep on the couch anymore. Can you help me determine which ones are necessary and which ones are not? Thank you!
Welcome to the wonderful world of GE. It seems they have such good technology that they cannot bear to share documentation with anyone but their own techs, so it leaves folks like us guessing.
You are going to need to take off the front, which you can do by inserting a screw driver in the gap between the front and top near the edges and releasing the clips that hold the front to the cabinet.
You can now operate the machine and locate exactly where the leak is coming from. Hopefully it is a hose and an easy repair. However, because you are now getting noise in the spin I am fearful that water has leaked from the main seal into the transmission, which causes all sorts of problems. In this case your spouse will be pleased to learn that a new machine is in her future.
Good luck.
Ouch! This unit is less than 5 years old. It is leaking from the center of the tub. Is there any way to tell if it is a bearing and seal replacement, or if the transmission is dying?
Well, it is definitely the seal, and about the only way to tell if anything else is a problem is to replace the seal and run it and see what happens.
