Clothing Wet After Spin

Greetings, all.
We have a Maytag top load washer, age questionable (was in my in laws house when they moved in, now we have it). Have not tried to reference the Serial#…is there an easy guide for interpreting the S/N?

Wet clothing, slow spin, noisy.

After reading a number of threads I replaced the thrust bearing assembly with the kit from this site and the belt for good measure. A couple notes from that:
When I raised the washer there was a ring of white/gray/black powdery shavings under the large pulley. A thin washer was on the unit. The old thrust bearing rattled like maracas. When I reassembled the pulley and cam and tested the adjustment, I could not get the cam marker between the ridge indicators on the pulley. It was low, even with the thin washer.

After changing the thrust bearing it behaved a little better, but was not right.
Watching it spin, I could see it start to want to agitate, then start spinning, but the agitator would sometimes "slip"-slow down for a second then catch up.

The pulley spins easily in both direction. When holding the drum, spinning the pulley in both directions causes the agitator to agitate. Which, if I understand the threads correctly, shows it is a bad transmission.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions? Did I miss something?
Thank you in advance for your help.
