Compressor not running

Temperature problem. I noticed the ice build in the freezer up so I changed the heater and thermostat in the freezer. The refrigerator temp was still low. I put freezer on lowest setting and refrigerator temp is now 40. The freezer temp is 12 . All fans are working and there is no blockage. I took overload and relay off and did not hear any rattling when I shook them. I am still getting ice build up on coils in back of freezer. Is this normal? Could it be the control temp. part AP2061760? Its the last thing I can think of. I purchased new overload and relay and they arrive tomorrow. Thanks for any help and this site has been a great resource!!!

Well - the compressor is running otherwise it would not be cool at all but just doesn’t seem to kick on like I am used to hearing.

I am a little confused.
Your post title was "Compressor not running" but in the second post you say the compressor is running.
Was it not running originally?

If the freezer is not getting to the correct temperature (0 to 5 degrees F) and the compressor is cycling then the thermostat may be your problem.

If the freezer is not getting cold enough but the compressor runs constantly, except when in a defrost cycle, then the thermostat is OK.

Is the compressor on all the time?
You can usually hear it but you should also be able to feel it vibrating and it should be warm.

If it is on remove the evaporator cover inside the freezer so you can inspect the coils.
If they are heavily iced/frosted over to the point that the evaporator fan cannot pull air through them then you have a defrost problem.
Since you have already replaced the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat odds are that the defrost timer is shot.
You can confirm this by turning the timer cam till the compressor shuts off. Then check if the defrost heater comes on.
Be careful you do not want to burn your fingers.
If it comes on then I would replace the timer.
Note: that if it does not come on, it does not eliminate the timer as the problem as it’s contacts may be shot. So then you have to check the heater/thermostat combo for continuity.

If the evaporator coils are not heavily iced/frosted over then you may have a sealed system problem.
A common symptom of this is that the compressor runs all the time but there is no frost or just frost in one area (usually where the freon enters the coils).

Before doing this be sure that the compressor has run for several hours because if you do it just after a defrost cycle there will be little or no frost and you will reach the wrong conclusion.
