Control board needs replacing?

Hi,

I have an 8 year old Jenn-Air Double Oven Freestanding Range. The bottom oven’s bottom coil stopped working. We had a repair technician out to inspect, and he while diagnosing the problem, my wife (who was home at the time watching) noticed a loud pop where he was working. The repairman then looked surprised, but then said it probably just needs a new coil (not sure if he shorted it out himself?) He returned a few days later with a new coil, only to find out it still didn’t work. He checked the control board in the back of the oven and noticed one of the relay switches had burn marks on it, so he assumes we now need a entire new control board. I asked if it was possible to just change out the relay switch (because a new board would cost around $450.00), he said they don’t do any work on boards that require soldering and that they could only replace the board.

  1. Would any other technician most likely tell me the same answer-that
they only will replace the entire board?
  2. Would replacing that relay switch be a simple fix?
  3. Is it worth replacing the control board for an 8 year old oven?

Thank you for you help.
