i have a Jenn air range that flashed an F2 error code abt a week ago while the oven was in use. I turned the electricity off at the breaker box and when the electric was turned back on the range spontaneously turned on without any indication on the control panel that the oven was on. Specifically it is the top coil that becomes red hot spontaneously. In addition when I push the cancel/ off button it does not shut off the oven. The control panel and clock can be programmed but it appears as if its disconnected from what is actually going on in the oven. Again as soon as electric is activated oven turns on by itself with no indication on control panel that it is on. A repairman told me I needed a new control board . I subsequently ordered and replaced the control board with part WPL 71001799 but am still having the same problem. Was the problem misdiagnosed? Do i need a different part? Any ideas? Should I trash the range? Thanks for your patience.

If your repairman recommended and you replaced the Electronic Oven Control then this is definitely mis-diagnosis. The problem is a bad relay board (#29 on the diagram).

If you ordered the EOC from Appliance Parts Pros then you probably can return it.

Gene.

Thanks for your help. My father who is a much better do it your selfer than i am disconnected the top coil from the electrical input and bypassed the relay and was able to turn off the top coil. I’m sure, as you already know, you were right about thr problem and I will return the clock control panel. Thank you so much for your help and expertise.

You are welcome.

You may want to know that this fix is just temporary. The problem with the relay board will probably get worse with the time. I understand that this part is pretty expensive but if you are planning to keep the range for a few more years then it’s better to replace it. A lot of such parts had been discontinued by the manufacturer just last year and it’s very likely you will find this relay board no longer available in a few months too.

Gene.

The warning hot light will not go out at all on the small burner on the left rear.

Here are the parts. Be sure to specify which burner is gone if you order from them.

See the attachment for the tech sheet.

Sounds like the normally open side of the limiter on the element is shorted.

Thanks very muvh for your help, today the light has gone out. Switch sticking?.

Switch sticking?
Yes that would be my guess.
Often when contacts go the start by pitting and eventually weld themselves together permanently.
Odds are that it will happen again, but you can never tell so perhaps the problem will never reappear.
I will keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks again for your help. Is this switch built into the glass top burners or is it separate. I’ve had to replace a couple of the burner control Switches a couple years ago.

Is this switch built into the glass top burners or is it separate.
I believe it is built into the element assembly.

Can the element be purchased separate from the glass top, I hope. Is it easy to change. Parts are expensive, almost time for a new stove.

Denman has and is beiign a great help to us.

Yes the elements can be purchased separately.
Installing them does take some time but is not that difficult once you figure out how to raise the oven to.
Just be sure to unplug the unit when working on it.
240 volts is lethal!!!

The unit is actually made by Whirlpool.

You have to join the site to download the manual but it is free and this is a very good site for manuals and other info for the appliance repair DIYer.

I do not have a Sears to Whirlpool cross reference so cannot be sure the following matches your unit.
That is why I gave the above link to the site. You may be able to figure out which manual matches you unit.

Here is the manual which I think may be close.
