Digital Display doesn't work on Jenn-AIR

The bake element went out. Would only heat up to 155 or so and then stay there. The digital display (clock, temp etc) worked. Last night I turned off the breaker to remove the element. This morning I installed the new element and turned the breaker back on. Now the digital display is dark (not dim). The control panel works. I am able to have it bake, broil etc. Yes, element works fine now. But no display. I have looked at the service manual and tried some different tests, but display always stays dark so I have no idea what any readouts are. I turned off the breaker, unplugged the power cord for about 20 minutes. Plugged back in and turned breaker on. No luck.

After reading lots of post regarding fading displays and seeing the common response is the control panel unit, I am skeptical mine has this problem. There was no dimming or indication of a problem with the display prior to replacing the element. Sure it could be coinicidence. My question is how could turning the breaker off overnight and replacing the element cause this?

Any ideas?

BTW I am not an electrician nor a technician so keep that in mind when answering.

Thanks you very much everyone.

The unit was never disassembled. All I did was remove the tray hiding the element - 2 screws. Replace the element −3 screws. Now I’m screwed.

Following your idea though, where would this connection be? I was working inside the oven. The control unit is up top. Would all of the buttons still work in this case?

Thanks for your reply. Prior to my first post I had my wife turn the freezer off. It was off for approximately 24 hrs. She turned it back on late yesterday and it now is freezing. What could of happened, and might it now be OK? Could the coils of plugged and are now clear or something?

It could have been a defrost problem.
The evaporator coils in the freezer become heavily iced/frosted over so that the evaporator fan cannot pull air through them to cool it.

Could also have been a compressor problem re: overheating.
And turning it off let the compressor cool down.

May even have been a sticking thermostat.

Did everything sound normal re: was the compressor running or was it clicking on/off or was it off?

Clicking would point to a compressor problem.

If the compressor was off, then a bad thermostat jumps to the top of the list.

If the compressor was running then I would suspect a defrost problem.

It is actually too bad that the unit was unplugged as you could not do any troubleshooting.
