Dishwasher leak around motor-self induced?

I started having water leaks down through the bottom of my dishwasher and drips around the motor a week ago. At the end of a cycle the dishes are not clean and the water is drained out of the bottom of the dishwasher, so there doesn’t appear to be a block in water drainage line or any drips around this area or around the inlet hose. A few weeks before this week started I had taken some of the inner parts apart because a piece of plastic from a dish had gotten into the chopper area and was making a lot of noise. I took off the washer arm, filter plate, impeller, chopper and cleaned them and cleaned out a few of the plastic chips from the cup piece that was getting chopped up. I did not notice any damage to the motor seal rubber or pump gasket. Is it possible that i did not reinstall the impeller or some other item tight enough or was I supposed to apply grease to anything in there to seal it to prevent this leaking? Or does opening it up simply ruin the seal so you have to replace the whole motor seal for some reason? Thanks.
