Hello,
Dryer taking longer to dry clothes, used to be when on high the clothes were so hot you could barely touch them, now medium hot. I was wondering if the coils would cause this? If not any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Please include part number as I didn’t see coils listed under the main listing of parts for the lgr8648lw0. Thanks.

Rod,
Have you checked the venting system for kinked venting or lint clogging the pipe, or vent hood ?
You could also discconnect the exhaust vent from the back of the dryer and check for how long it takes to dry a load of clothes, that would help varify a clogged vent system.
When coils become weak and start to malfunction,
Yes you will get a similar symptom, but that’s why you need to eliminate the vent system first.
Here is the part number for both coils for the gas valve(should you need them).
There should be a 1x1 inch square plastic cover in the bottom left portion of the front panel,
You can remove that cover(it’s a press on friction fit)and you can observe the gas valve cycling on and off through the opening.
Make sure, when the glowbar cycles off, you get a flame on the burner, you may need to observe for several cycles (15 to 30 minutes)before the coils may fail.
Good Luck,
Sorry, first thing I checked was vent system and flow out back of dryer, the problem is it doesn’t get nearly as hot as it used to. Thanks.

Rod,
A clogged or kinked vent, lint filter, etc. will cause the dryer to heat too quickly, and give the impression of a low temperature in the dryer and take too long to dry.
A weak set of gas valve coils, will cause a simillar symptom, the coils get weak and there is no gas released near the end of the cycle, giving the impression of a low heat, takes too long to dry.
These problems are more common than a bad thermostat or temperature selector switch.
That’s why I reccomended you observe the gas valve operation and flame through the inspection openning in the front panel with a load in the dryer and the vent disconnected.
You can check circuits on the temperature switch and thermostat if you have a multi meter.
At the switch, with both purple wires off, you should read approximately 10 ohms resistance on the low setting and 10,000 ohms resistance on the high heat setting. if your resistance remains at 10 ohms when the switch is on the high setting, you’d have a bad switch.

At the thermostat remove the two purple wires and check across the empty terminals for 5500 to 8500 ohms, then each terminal to the metal mount of the thermostat for a closed circuit, there should be no circuit between the terminal and the metal case, if there is you’d have a shorted bias heater in the thermostat.

Good Luck,
Coils fixed problem! Thanks so much!!!
