Start button starts dryer but it doesn’t stay on. Hold down button,it stays on. Replaced start switch. Replaced timer. No change. Still will not stay on.

I cannot get a wiring diagram for this unit as GE likes to keep all tech info a secret.
I do see in the parts that this unit has a belt tension sensing switch.
On some units this is in the motor run winding circuit so check that it is closed (0 ohms).
Check the centrifugal switch on the motor.
The motor has 2 centrifugal switches on it. They actuate when the motor gets close to operating speed.
One of them connects in the heater circuit. This ensures that the heater does not come on until there is air flow. So if you hold the start switch and it runs but there is no heat then perhaps there is a problem with the mechanical assembly in the motor that actuates the switches. Often this is just a lint build up.
The other switch has 2 functions.
It switches out the motor’s start winding which if left in circuit would over heat the motor.
It also provides a parallel circuit path around the start switch so that you can release the start switch and the motor continues running.

THANKS. I see the part. Other threads show the possiblity that the motor is bad, not just the start switch. The dryer is just over a year old with seasonal service(low hrs) only. Can I test the switch? I hate to keep throwing $ at parts. Already replaced timer and push start switch.

By the sound of it you have the wiring diagram so you could short the normally open contacts on the correct switch.
Then plug it in and give it a try.
If you can release the start button and it keeps running then odds are high that it is the switch. Do not let it run very long like this as the start winding may still be in circuit and the motor will overheat.
The belt tension switch can also be checked in this way.
The above assumes that the heat does work when you now hold the start switch on. This tells you that the mechanism in the motor is actuating the switches. If there is also no heat then you probably need a new motor.
