Dryer starts but won't keep running.

Maytag Dryer LDE9824ACE. Push the momentary start button and the drum turns and the heat works if I keep it held in. As soon as I release the button everything stops. Tested thermal fuses and start switch and they are ok. Any ideas?

Hi.

Most likely the problem is bad winding at the motor.

The new motor comes without the pulley. You can remove the old one ,but a

lot of the times the set screw is a challenge.

So even though the drum turns just fine when I hold the button in, it can still be a motor problem that prevents the dryer cycle from continuing? I thought if a winding was bad the motor wouldn’t work at all. Can it be tested at all?Sorry to be a pain but I want to get it straight in my head.

Hi.

The typical dryer motor has start and run windings. the start one is more powerful then the run one. When you push the start button, you are engaging the start winding.

Momentarily the centrifugal switch transferring power to the run winding and the motor continue running.

It’s a definite problem with the motor.

Open the control panel to find the wiring diagram.

Thanks. Post the results.

Thanks for the explaination. That now makes perfect sense. I did replace the motor and everything now works perfectly and my wife is happy again.:stuck_out_tongue:

You are very welcome.
