Estate dryer does not shut off

The dryer will not stop running. On some timer settings the dial does not move at all and on other settings (auto sense I think) the dial moves toward the off position but once it gets close it stops moving. I have tried two new timers but both act the same as the old one. I’m assuming that it is unlikely that I got two bad timers in a row and that there is some other problem. What else could possibly be the cause? For what its worth, the dryer also does not stop when the door is opened.
