I have been searching the Internet for the past two days and have found other Whirlpool Calypso washer owners experiencing the same problem that I have; namely, that my control panel will not function when I press any of the touch screen buttons except the cancel/clear button. Upon doing so, the panel displays "8 minutes remaining" but will not allow any other functions to be activated. Also, I cannot remove the "8 minutes remaining" message except by unplugging the washer.
Upon reading the instruction manual for my washer, I learned that the "8 minutes remaining" message is associated with the extended spin cycle option.
Other queries to your forum regarding this same symptom have indicated a problem with the Control Panel Assembly.
My question to your experts is: Should I just go ahead and replace the Control Panel Assembly or could it be a problem with one of the other electronic circuit boards instead (e.g., Motor Control Board or Machine Control Board)? Your advice is appreciated, Gravy
my issue sounds simular. The cycle will not finish, it seems to get stuck around 22 min. when i do a rinse and spin cycle; it stays on the eight min mark and sounds like it wants to start to spin but wont.
The problem with your washer looks very similar to the problems described previously. So the solution is the same as described above. I’m not sure about the correct part numbers for your washer because the model number you posted does not come up.
i’m experiencing the exactly same problem, washer bips while dispays 8 min in the extended cycle mode … the tips provided suggest to troubleshoot by checking touch pad results … can anyone confirm they were able to successfuly fix the issue? Is it the control panel that needs replacement? I think i may need to call Whirlpool support, but would like to see if this problem is bigger than i could handle by myself and may be worth consider buying new one?

Michael,
I had this problem off and on, and was still able to randomly get lucky and use the machine. But then it got to the point of no return. I am no electrician by any means. I ended up calling maintenance. He tried to "fix" it even by cutting through the extended spin button to deactivate that option, to see if I could use the machine without that option. That didn’t work, so I had to get a new control panel. Labor and parts came to around $400. We went ahead and repaired, and planned that the next time we need maintenance we’ll buy new. I haven’t had any problems with the new control panel, around 4-5 months later now. For what it’s worth, he said that the Whirlpool Duet is what all at his shop own and love, and seems to have the least maintenance required of the HE machines. (They also said that the steam features on the Duet especially for the washer are not really practical, worth the extra cost, or necessary.) He was certified to work on Whirlpool, but was part of a local HVAC maintenance company not completely tied to Whirlpool. I found them quite accomodating and trustworthy.
Hi. We had this problem as well with our calypso whirlpool washer. It turns out the extended spin button was stuck. This was verified with an ohm meter. I ended up replacing the control panel assembly (part with the buttons and the lcd screen).
The part number is 8299673 8563810.
Found one used for $30 on a certain online auction site!
