F2 Faul on old Magic Chef 58HK-6TXW

Yesterday, after using the oven and then broiler, after all was turned off the control panel beeped with an F2 code that would not clear. Never had any fault codes, and only thing in the 7 years since I’ve been at this house with this older ‘drop-in’ oven that I’ve changed was the front control panel plate because you couldn’t see the numbers and control printing due to wear, and GENE - bless his heart - was great at assisting me getting one of the little stubborn knobs off to allow the facia swap! Anyway, here I had to turn off the oven at the circuit breaker. This morning, I reset it and used the burners OK, but when I tried to test if the oven worked, I got the F2 beep again and had to shut it off at the breaker. Read that F2 indicates oven temp too hot and suggests replacing the relay board (+$100) or replacing the oven temp sensor (+$25), so I thought I’d try to check and test the temp sensor - supposed to be 1080 ohms ar room temp…but after removing screws, it wouldn’t come out past the asbestos shielding on the connecting wire. (1) Can I pull up the cooktop without removing the stove? …to see if I can access the rear and snake the wire/connector for the temp sensor out of the rer oven wall hole to disconnect and test it? (2) Where’s the relay board located (if I have to go that far)? What’s R&R for the relay board entail? (Besides laying out a C-note!) Thanks…my wife will think it will be nice to be able to cook again sometime in this waning year.

…time to think it over. Couldn’t get temp sensor out, so needed to pull range out. (YUCK! If I need to do it once, I don’t want to do it twice.) $26 for a new temp sensor (if that’s bad) or try to troubleshoot with a new board if temp sensor doesn’t do the job…even if that eventually works, i’ve got a really old black oven in a kitchen with all SS stuff! And if not, I need a new drip-in. So I bit the bullet and just ordered a new Frigidaire (SS) drop-in FFED3025LS. Nearby Lowe’s matched the lowest price online (WDC @ $1079) and in 2+ weeks, I’ll remove the old one and give my wife a new range. Thanks anyway. Happy New Year.
