Hello,
I bought this GE top load washer (WHDRR418G1WW) and it is not spinning or agitating. The washer is about 2 years old (no warranty). The pump does pump out the water. I pulled the front cover off. The belt is still intact. What should I look for / test next.
Thank you,
You should see some blinking lights on the inverter which is on the motor. These are troubleshooting codes.
Use this site to interpret them, but before doing anything reset using the instructions and see if that fixes things.

If you cannot get the machine to go into a diagnostic mode, the likely problem is the control board, but with this model it could be anything
I would try changing out the control module, but what I would really do is replace the machine. When it works it is a very good washer, but when it does not, well, you have the experience of what happens then.
Good luck, if you buy the parts from this site and they do not fix the problem you can return them. See the returns policy for details.
I figure on buying a new washer and selling this one for some parts. Any one in Az want to make an offer before I throw it up on craigslist?
I think that it is a good decision. You will be poorer in the short run, but a much happier person in the long run.
What do you recommend? GE? Whirlpool? Maytag?
I am looking at a new machine. It happens to be a GE. I don’t want to be burned twice, but if it was just this model that is the problem.
It is a GE Appliances White 4.3 IEC cu. ft. Stainless Steel Capacity Washer (GTWN4950L). It looks nicer than the one i currently own.
Or should I shoot for a Kenmore White 4.3 cu. ft. I.E.C. Equivalent* Capacity Top Load Washer ENERGY STAR® Model# 21302.
I am just looking for your opinion.
Thank you,
And thank you for your help.
The basic top loaders by Whirlpool (which is also Kenmore, Inglis, and Roper) are the ones I would recommend. Frigidaire, Maytag and GE also make good machines, but the Whirlpool’s are using direct drive technology and they are the ones I would buy.
You should be able to get a very good deal as they are being heavily discounted. You want to avoid anything with electronic controls for reasons you are only too familiar with.
Good luck, all of the new basic top loaders are fine and I am sure you will do well.
