So I’ve got a GE top loading washer that won’t spin but only when there is anything more than a small load in there. I’ve looked through various forums and couldn’t find a similar problem to mine so I’m posting looking for advice. When I run the washer with nothing in it, it does everything right; fills, agitates, drains and spins. I can even do my whites which tends to be small and light. It’s a little comforting I suppose since I know that the motor and belt work. It CAN spin. But when it gets an even remotely sizable load, during the spin cycle it starts to spin for about 3 seconds and then shuts off. A short while later it will attempt to spin again with the same result. It’s not because it’s lopsided though maybe whatever sensor that is is broken. But hell, I’m no appliance repair guy. Any help is greatly appreciated.
We must have the model number of the machine to be of any help.

My apologies. Model number is WCSR2080B2WW.
Could be a loose belt or failing clutch. Remove the front panel so you can observe operation when it goes into spin. Check to see if motor shaft is rotating and also the motor pulley and belt. To remove front panel, forcefully insert a putty knife into the top groove of front panel on each end in line with the lid opening while pulling on panel. This will release the clips and then you can tilt panel outward and lift from machine.

Sorry for the delay, wednesday is the only day I can get around to working on the house, and thanks again for the reply. After further amateur research on my unit, I’m convinced that the problem is something along the line of a tub bearing or in the transmission (just based on reading articles that really I know nothing about). Further reading suggests that the labor involved might be beyond my scope and the cost of parts almost might not be worth it. I think I’ve resigned myself to just purchasing a new unit.
