I have a howling noise coming from by bottom mount Monogram refrigerator. I orginally thought it was the evaporator fan but the howling continued after it was replace. I discovered another part called the evaporator heater kit. Apparently there is a fan in the part and blow air over the drain pan. Like all Monogram parts this one is expensive - $700. I have seen repair comments on the newer Monogram models that indicate the drain pan fan is not really needed and can be unplugged. It only necessary in extreme conditions.
Two questions - Is this part necessary or can the fan be disabled and if so how do you get to the power cord. If it must be replaced how to you remove it. It looks very complicated. It appears that a refrigerant line must be removed to take out the unit.
Thanks! The only problem I have now is to locate the connection. The refer is built in to the wall so finding the correct wires could be a problem. Unfortunately, according to the wiring schematic it looks like it is on the same circuit as the evaporator fan. So I can’t disconnect it at the top next to the compressor. I am going to have to find a way to get to it from the bottom. Besides pulling the refer out of the wall any suggestions?
For anyone with a noisy drain pan fan on a Monogram BM refer circa 2000 here is how to fix it. Remove kickplate. The fan is located on the left and is hidden behind a metal plate. You cannot see the fan nor the electrical connections. At the top of the metal plate is a single screw that attaches the plate to the bottom of the refer (bottom of freezer section). Remove the screw (you will need an extremely short screw drive) and the plate comes off. If the copper water line is in the way you may have to undo the copper water line and move it aside. With plate removed you will see the fan next to the water valve for the ice maker. Undo the electrical connection to the fan. You are done with a noisy fan unless you want to replace it. However, it is not necessary to replace the fan unless you live in a very humid area. As noted in this thread, the drain pan is heated and a fan is not normally required. Note that a replacement is very expensive - $450-700.
I have a ~5 yrs old Frigidaire freezer, model LFFU14F5HWA. Recently I notice it seems to be running all the time. The temp seems to be cold okay though. What could be wrong?
