freezer cold, fridge warm, damper closed tite

My freezer is very cold, -25F or so, my fridge section is warm, 50 F or so, and the damper is fully closed. Intuition says it should be open but this is not the case. Where should i start?

Hi.

Most likely you need to replace the damper control

thermostat 2204991

It’s located inside the control panel in the refrigerator.

Thank you. Post the results.

thanks. I have more information to add. Last nite i checked the fridge. The fridge temp was set to the max "colder" setting and the freezer control (damper) was set to the mid position. the freezer temp was -20F and the fresh food section was at 45F. When i got up this a.m. the frezzer temp was 13F and the fresh section temp was 56F. At this point the fan and compressore were not running and the damper was almost fully shut. i removed the screws to the control panel and dropped it down. when i did so, and i suppose as the wires flexed, the fridge kicked on. i wiggled the wires to the fridge thermostat and the fan turned off and on again as i did. i then continued to wiggle the wires but the fan continued to run. i had to leave for work so i replaced the control panel and i dont yet know what happened next.

Hi.

Put both controls in the middle position and allow 12 hrs.

Post the results.

ok, i did as you instructed. i set the controls to the mid (4) position yesterday at 6 pm. Later in the evening i checked the temps (fridge was not running) and the freezer was at 6F and the fresh compartment was at 55F. i reached in to the fridge and tapped gently on the underside of the control housing and the fridge started up. This morning, at 7am i checked the temps again and the freezer was at 11F and the fresh section was at 50F and the unit was not running. again i tapped gently on the underside of the control housing and the unit fired up.

oh, i forgot something. even when the fridge started up after tapping the control housing, there was very very little cold air passing into the fridge through the damper.

Hi.

Check if the evaporator coils (behind the back panel in the freezer) are not blocked with the snow and covered with frost evenly. If that the case then replace the cold control

Thank you.

Simon.

No problem with frost buildup. Ordered cold control from you and installed. Problem went away. It’s all good now. Thanks for the guidance and great service on the replacement part.

You are welcome.
