freezer does not stay at temp

this is a new thread continued from an old thread.
My freezer is not maintaining its temperature while the refrigerator is. I assume the refrigerator stays at its temp because it is a higher temp and easier to regulate.
I took the advice from the forum and turned the unit off for 48 hrs and restarted.
I also replaced the thermostat as I wanted to see if that was a contributor: not coming out of defrost, etc.
The unit continues to ‘work’ but will sometime jump to >15 degrees in the freezer.
The compressor works: it will freeze to -5 deg and you can hear the compressor turning on and working.
BUT: sometimes you can hear the compressor (or the relay that is) switch to ‘on’ but then immediately to ‘off’. It acts like a relay or maybe the run capacitor or even the overload is cycling.

Does anybody have any advice on this subject? could it be the motherboard?
It does not sound like a compressor problem: i can change the digital gauge to off, wait 10 seconds and turn the digital gauge to ‘on’ and hear the compressor (or relay) kick on; almost like a manual start (or forcing the compressor to turn on). I have also done this and had the compressor (or relay) turn ‘on’ then immediately ‘off’. this indication has made me believe it is electronics and I am leaning towards the (3) components I mentioned above (as I believe there are not many more that could be the problem).

[SIZE=3]I have seen a lot of the main boards cause the compressor to turn on and off when it is shouldn’t because of a bad relay on the board. When this happens the fans will continue to run (if not you may have a different problem). Disconnect power from the refrigerator and remove the main board and check to see if there is a burnt spot on the back of the board. If so replace the board. Thanks. I am trying the (3) other electrical components first before I try the motherboard. but I will look for burnt components on the back of the board. I will focus on the relays.
